Presented by Museum Skanderborg, VisitSkanderborg and Art Council Skanderborg
Thanks to excavations at Øm Abbey, you can see the ruins and the almost intact ground plan of the monumental Cistercian Monastery that towered over Lake Mossø until 1560. Countless archaeological excavations throughout the years have exposed the ruins to bear witness to the daily life of the monks, in prayer and work. These discoveries are displayed at the abbey.
eSCAPE is now rebuilding the demolished abbey through events and with a contemporary art installation by the French artist, Olivier Grossetête. Previously, Grossetête has worked with a similar project at the abbey Abbaye aux Dames i Saintes, France. eSCAPE is about combining art, archaeology, past and present – creating and telling archeological stories on sites with strong historical evidence in combination with scientific excavations.
eSCAPE is a collaboration between archaeology, art and tourism, Museum Skanderborg, Art Council Skanderborg/Skanderborg Municipality and VisitSkanderborg respectively.
