An Aarhus 2017 Commission
Presented by Aarhus Jazz Orchestra
Aarhus Jazz Orchestra’s Global Jazz Explorer will develop and brand Aarhus and the region as an international Jazz Metropolis. It will present a diverse and artistically ambitious programme showing jazz in new formats, delivered to diverse audiences, and developed through new interdisciplinary and global partnerships.
Inspired by the global music scene, Aarhus Jazz Orchestra rethinks the whole big band tradition. 'We invite the world to come and play, and invite different cultures to influence the works we create and perform in 2017'.
Projects include Voices from Rosenhøj, Bollywood Beats and Big Band and the large-scale collaborative project, Origins2017, involving five Aarhus ensembles. All works reinvent jazz content and its genres. Origins2017 wrestles with the big scientific questions conveyed by music; the voices from Rosenhøj give children and young people from vulnerable social areas the opportunity to verbalize their dreams for the future; and the orchestra has invited a group of Indian classical musicians to Aarhus to set a score for the global world of tomorrow.
