It’s been about 30 years since the song ’Hjem til Aarhus’ by the band PS12 dominated the radio playlists, so maybe it is time for a rethinking of the Aarhus-song. This idea emerged from a conversation between Apperaat and Jesper Mardahl from Promus in Aarhus.
Through the years, several good songs have been written around the topic of Aarhus. Besides ‘Hjem til Aarhus’, you could also mention ‘Pigen ud af Aarhus’ by Tina Dickow and ‘Lav sol over Aarhus’ by Gnags. And if you go further back in time, many will remember ‘Aarhus Tappenstreg’.
Apperaat has received financial support from the OFF Track 2017 funds in their rethinking of the Aarhus-song. They have conferred with different people, amongst other Jesper Mardahl (Promus), the former CEO of Aarhus Festuge, Jens Folmer Jepsen (who actually wrote part of the text for ‘Hjem til Aarhus’), Jørgen Carlsen (former principal of Testrup Højskole and among others know from the DR2 TV program ‘Smagsdommerne’ and the Danish Council on Ethics) and bishop emeritus Kjeld Holm, but also with people from the music industry and people “on the street”. This has resulted in lots of great inputs and inspiration for the writing process.
The result, ‘Aarhus simpelthen’ (in English: ‘Aarhus simply’) contains spoken words by bishop emeritus Kjeld Holm and Jørgen Carlsen and vocals by the talented composer and singer, Nanna Bech.
‘Aarhus simpelthen’ and the related video has its official release for the finale of the year as European Capital of Culture 2017 on December 9th from 6.30 pm to 7 pm in the foyer – bar and lounge area at Aarhus City Hall.
Tam Vibberstoft and Niels Gade from Apperaat will introduce the song and music video supplemented by Kjeld Holm and Jørgen Carlsen.
