A Christmas Story! The outdoor museum, Den Gamle By, is avery special place at Christmas, with a magical atmosphere. Throughout Den Gamle By, houses, shops and streets will be decked out to represent three different periods in the past 400 years, giving you an impression of how Christmas has been celebrated in Denmark from the early 1600s to the 1970s. This is an authentic Christmas experience, and at weekends you can visit the Christmas market with open-air stalls, brass bands and fire shows.
All around Den Gamle By you can have a look inside the buildings and see how people have traditionally prepared for Christmas, which most Danes still celebrate on 24 December with a Christmas dinner at which duck or goose is served, and with a special Christmas dessert. And as all Danes know, the one who finds the almond in the dessert gets a present!
