Aarhus 2017 wishes to congratulate Plovdiv in Bulgaria and Matera in italy, which have been appointed to be European Capital of Culture in 2019.
In September, a jury of independent experts decided to appoint Plovdiv in Bulgaria as European Capital of Culture in 2019. The city was awarded the title in front of the cities Sofia, Varna and Veliko Turnovo.

And now it has been decided that Matera in Italy will be the second European Capital of Culture in 2019. The city was awarded the title in front of Cagliari, Lecce, Perugia, Ravenna and Siena.
