Monday, the second of three sailing sculptural installations made out of concrete was moved from the shipyard in Mygdal, Hjørring. The LIFE-BOATS project consists of three works of art, all of which are shaped as women and each represent a theme of life. In the years towards 2017, LIFE-BOATS will be travelling the Nordic seas and the canals of Europe as a flagship for European Capital of Culture Aarhus 2017.
With much excitement and some mild anxiety, the process of moving LIFE-BOATS ship number two from its home in the shipyard in Mygdal was initiated Monday morning. The beautiful ship imitates the body of a pregnant woman and was christened ‘My Ship is loaded with Life’.
The somewhat nerve wrecking day began at 9 am. The ship was slowly, but safely, lowered on some strong wheels, before she was pushed into the light in true old school Egyptian fashion. All in all, it took between 4 to 5 hours to move the beautiful ship out in the open.

The artist behind LIFE-BOATS is Marit Benthe Norheim. The overall theme of the sculpture group is Woman in the three stages of life. Each boat represents one of the three phases, which are:
• Longing - the young, about to enter the world
• Life - mid-life and fertilized
• Memories - aging - or death
