H.M. the Queen Margrethe II has agreed to participate in the official opening of the exhibition Jorn+Munch, one of the highlights in the European Capital of Culture 2017 programme. The opening will take place on 10 February at 14.30 at Museum Jorn, Silkeborg.
Nothing less than a royal occasion is in store when the two giants of Scandinavian art, Edvard Munch and Asger Jorn, come together in the unique exhibition Jorn+Munch.
The Queen will be present at the official opening of the exhibition on 10 February at 14.30 at Museum Jorn, Silkeborg.
As one of the first major events in the scheduled cultural programme, the exhibition marks the opening of the European Capital of Culture 2017, an event enjoying the patronage of the Queen.
"Munch and Jorn both dealt with human conditions in a modern society and this exhibition shows how close their works are related, when they put the big questions of life and death. I am sure that people will come from far away to see it and we hope that this will contribute to our ambitions for increased tourism across the region," says Rebecca Matthews, director of Aarhus 2017.
"With the Jorn + Munch exhibition, Museum Jorn will be presenting one of the highlights of the Aarhus 2017 – European Capital of Culture programme. We’re very proud that the Queen shows interest in the exhibition by agreeing to attend. We believe that the exhibition will be one of the truly great events of the year and the Queen’s decision to attend the formal opening serves to further confirm this," says Jacob Thage, museum director.
Jacob Thage, museum director, will welcome the guests at the official opening of Jorn + Munch and the museum director of the Munch Museum in Oslo, Stein Olav Henrichsen, and the Norwegian ambassador to Denmark, Ingvard Havnen, will both speak. Moreover Norweigian author Cathrine Knudsen will perform a poetic performance.
The exhibition is open to the public from 11th April - 28th May.
