In Denmark, the postal company PostNord has launched five stamps celebrating Aarhus as European Capital of Culture 2017. The stamps show some of Aarhus’ most significant landmarks: ARoS Art Museum, Aarhus City Hall, DOKK1 (citizens’ service/main library), the Iceberg (apartment complex) and the new Moesgaard Museum.
"We’re thrilled that all Aarhusians and anyone else interested are now able to purchase the stamps. Besides being suitable for sending letters to family and friends abroad, the stamps will be a nice memento of the fact that 2017 is a very special year for Aarhus and for Denmark," says Martin Pingel, Head of Design with PostNord Frimærker (stamps).
The stamps can be purchased at local post offices across Denmark and also via PostNord’s netshop and PostNord’s app. The denomination of the stamps is DKK 25, making them suitable for letters and postcards to recipients all around the world.
"We’re very proud that PostNord is taking part in the celebration of Aarhus as European Capital of Culture, with the issue of five stamps. Aarhus has become a very popular destination for many international tourists, and they are now able to send greetings to family and friends back home where the special Aarhus stamps adorn the postcard," says Rebecca Matthews, CEO of European Capital of Culture Aarhus 2017.
"In a world where an ever greater share of communications is done electronically, it’s something special to receive a personal letter, complete with an Aarhus 2017 stamp, a very special year in Aarhus. I’m very pleased that our year is being commemorated with these very impressive stamps, which will spread the word across the globe about Aarhus and our fantastic cultural life," says Rabih Azad-Ahmad, Alderman for Culture and Citizens’ Services in the City of Aarhus.
The exhibition about the stamps will be on display in DOKK1, level 2.1, during the summer.
