'De Splittergale' kicks off Aarhus Festival with a bang! Hungarian gipsy songs, Balkanpunk and Flamingo dancing are some of the activities that will take place on Institut for X behind Godsbanen from 28th-30th August. The Festival is part of 'De Splittergales' contribution to Aarhus 2017.
The programme for the festival also contains concerts, workshops, jam sessions and lectures on the history of the Romani people by writer and journalist Malene Fenger.
Among the performing artists are:
- 'De Splittergale' and the Hungarian music- and dance group Romano Suno. A mix of traditional Danish folk music and gipsy songs and dance.
- Bulgarian horn orchester Repo Rteri.
- Transsylvanian dance group Roma Fest, with dancers known from Cirque du Soleil.
- Flamenco dancers accompagnied by reknowned guitarist Eugenia Iglesias.
- The Rizi Family from Kosovo. They play traditional gipsy music from The Balcans.

The Festival is part of 'De Splittergales' contribution to Aarhus 2017. In a collaboration with Aarhus Kommune (the municipality of Aarhus) and VIA University College the potential of vulnerable groups is examined. In spite of cultural differences new possibilities of collaborations arise between the cultural groups of the city and the Romani People of EU
