In October, Aarhus-based artist Ditte Lyngkær Pedersen visited Pafos, which is also European Capital of Culture in 2017. There, she was part of the exhibition ’Trauma and Therapy – Cypriot Antiquity and Contemporary Art’ at Pafos Archeological Museum. Now, she has returned to Denmark rich on experience.
Ditte Lyngkær Pedersen was in Pafos as sole representative for Northern Europe. She exhibited her art works together with a group of local artists, as well as artists from cities nearby – among others Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus. Other artists came from Greece and the Turkish part of Cyprus.
The exhibition is curated by Niki Loïzidi and organized by the cultural organization ex-Artis, which the local artists founded when Pafos was elected as European Capital of Culture.
Ditte Lyngkær Pedersen combined her stay with a vacation with her family. According to her, Pafos is an extraordinarily lovely place, filled with beautiful nature, high temperatures and a rich cultural life. It was also an exquisite pleasure and inspiring experience to meet artists from a different cultural background.
This creative meeting between European citizens is something Ditte Lyngkær Pedersen hopes to expand upon in the future by inviting some of the artists to the cold North.
Beautiful pictures
The Aarhus-based artists has been so kind to lend out her pictures from Pafos to Aarhus 2017, so we can raise awareness to the city and the island. The Secretariat for Pafos2017 has also shot some pictures from the grand opening of the exhibition at Pafos Archeological Museum.
