There has just been deadline for the composer competition 'The Sound of Aarhus 2017'. The competition aims to select a contribution that will give the European Capital of Culture a unique and recognizable sound. A total of 31 composers from Europe and South America took up the challenge and submitted bids for their interpretation of what the sound of Aarhus 2017 should be.
European Capital of Culture, Aarhus 2017 and the three composer’s associations Danish Jazz, Beat and Folk Authors (DJBFA), the Danish Composer’s Association (DKF) and Danish Popular Authors (DPA), have joined forces on a new culture project that will resonate all over the region.
Monday, December 1. was the deadline for the submission of ideas for the competition, and the Danish Composer’s Association received a total of 31 contributions on behalf of the project. Sine Tofte Hannibal, who is Head of the Secretariat of the Danish Composer’s Association, is very pleased with the result:
"It has gone beyond all our expectations, particularly in light of the fact that it is a very challenging and complex project we have presented our applicants with. We have received 31 contributions, of which there are both Danish and foreign artists from Europe and South America. It is a very exciting field of applicants who have taken up the challenge and given us their take on what the sound of Aarhus 2017 is," says Sine Tofte Hannibal.
In January 2015, all submitted proposals will evaluated by a jury composed of representatives from the international music scene.
