In the summer of 2016, VIA University College and Aarhus University will start a new educational collaboration. Together, the two institutions will launch "2017 Academy Summer School", this year consisting of a handful courses that will strengthen creativity and global network in educational matters.
2017 Academy Summer Schools is a laboratory for educational development. During the three-week courses, the students will experience collaborations between educational institutions, subjects and qualifications. That is why all the Summer Schools are based on cultural production.
"In the courses, we will work practically and with the process in mind. The actual work on cultural productions will be a motivation for discussion and reflection. The students will gain a new approach to academic work and strengthen their future entry into the labor market," says Bente Larsen, coordinator for the 2017 Academy Summer Schools and teacher at the course in Audio Drama.
The courses are available for students in Aarhus, but they also serve a bigger purpose as an offer to international students, who want to try studying in Aarhus. Thereby, the courses are an opportunity for students to work practically and creatively with other young people from Denmark and abroad.
In 2016 the Summer School will primarily be offering courses in cultural production. However, in 2017 those will be supplemented by courses in Cultural Learning and Cultural Management.
2017 Academy Summer School is one out of many projects that is a collaboration between Aarhus University and VIA University on the occasion of European Capital of Culture Aarhus 2017. The collaboration, called “2017 Academy”, is part of a larger partnership with the Capital of Culture. The goal is to pave the way for new fusions of knowledge, art, culture and business and to create a lasting impact/effect of Aarhus 2017.
