Friday, August 11th: "Introduction to Availabism”
Drawing from her history of creating extreme performance art, Kembra Pfahler leads six workshops through her areas of expertise. The first class investigates the origins of the word “Availabism,” Pfahler’s practice of making the best use of available materials. The class will explore techniques of costume-making and collage.
Saturday, August 12th: ”Anti-naturalism in Contemporary Culture”
We will read about the Japanese philosophy of "Wabi-sabi“ among an array of production techniques, and explore accessible ways of putting together performances and photo shoots.
Friday, August 18: ”Gothletics”
A course specializing in strength-building, balance and parkour techniques specifically designed for singers and people interested in developing a strong performance personality. It's not a career-builder… it’s a body-builder.
Saturday, August 19: "The Manual of Action”
This class focuses on song-writing techniques developed by the band The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black. We will make simple homemade instruments, and each of us will write and perform a song that we will document on film.
Friday, August 25: "By Hand”
This class teaches non-fiction illustration, encouraging participants to draw as a way of keeping a diary, and helping participants to find their individual drawing vocabulary.
